Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope everyone had a glorious long weekend - the weather was just incredible.  We spent the whole weekend outside!  Here are a few shots I took in my garden and on a quick jaunt around the block that  just say "FALL" to me, even though the colours aren't that intense yet.  It is something about the golden light.  As much as I dread winter, a beautiful fall is pretty spectacular!  

OK, Blogger's photo uploading is making me CRAAAAZY.  They keep jumping out of order and going off-centre.  Grrrr...

Kijiji deals

I was taking some baby stuff off of Kijiji and of course could not resist the pull of a quick mosey through the aisles.  Here is some awesome stuff I thought could be nabbed at pretty great prices!  Do you agree or am I wasting my imaginary money?  (Husbands of mine need not reply...)

Cool Chrome Bistro table - $75.  Would look great in a corner piled with potted plants. 

Gorgeous mid-century chrome stacked ball lamp - $85.  Hello bedside table lamp! I love this puppy.

 Beautiful mid-century neutral-coloured chair.  $500.  Seem steep?  

That price will also get you the matching sofa below!  Unfortunate red pillows and side lighting (highlighting every pucker), but amazing deal.

 Slate-topped Iron Table from India - $75.  Amazing one-of-a-kind coffee table with an industrial feel.

 Funky orange and white 50's diner-style table - $445.

Could be the perfect mod conversation piece, while not being too in-your-face.

Brass Mid-century lamp - $40.  Ok, it's kind of kooky, but I reeeeally love it.  Definitely unique.  And $40?  Common.  I may just have to send an email....

Gap logo

Full Disclosure: I love the Gap.  I worked there for a while, met great people there, and love their skinny jeans and basic aesthetic.  I am SO excited that now I can finally shop their brands online in Canada.  But I am truly confused by their introduction of a new logo:

WHY why why???  That blue box has to be one of the most recignizable brand logos out there!  It's like Nike changing from a swoop to a swirl.  I know Gap Corp hasn't been doing fantastically lately, but you would think that the LAST think they would want to do is stray from their tried-and-true logo.  Bizzarre.

I finished my photo course!  Here are all my submissions for each letter of the alphabet (minus a, since I started late!)  The course was so much fun and I learned SO much about my camera, taking photos and using photoshop.  I can't wait for the next one!!   Thanks to Miss B from Blah, Blah, Blahg for setting it up.

Lori Andrews

Lori Andrews, aka the 10 Cent Designer, is a true renaissance woman. She takes incredible photos, designs gorgeous rooms, has a blog about food (with beautiful photos), and hikes and camps in the most beautiful places. She lives in Calgary so she gets extra point for being Canadian, and she takes full advantage of living in a beautiful place.

I could post a million things of hers, but my favourites are her self-portraits. They are so unique, so narrative, so evocative, they really inspire me! I could post all of them, they are so wonderful. Here are some of my favourites, but I urge you to visit her Flickr page. Her titles are almost as good as the photos (the one below for example is titled Her Thoughts Went). Thanks Lori, for letting me share!

Phillip Toledano

I came across the most wonderful photo essay from Phillip Toledano, a photographer-turned-father (again I can't remember where).  His comments echo the thoughts of just about every new parent, who watches this strange alien become the very core of their existence, and the photos are great in that they are not your run-of-the-mill baby shots.  I have to admit to both laughing and getting a little teary-eyed as I read...

Therese Sennerholt

I can't remember where I saw the designs of Therese Sennerholt (maybe See Saw?) but her site is as lovely as her prints.  The designs are so striking, and the styling of the photos is beautiful.  I am still kind of on the fence about word art, but some of these are very tempting (until you convert from SEK!)  Here are some shots of her site and her works:
