The joys of technology are unending

Hoo boy you guys, I am up to my nostrils in blogging muck, trying to move Wicked & Weird from Blogger to Wordpress.  I am doing it super slowly, mostly because I don't have a clue what I am doing and have to find a youtube tutorial for every step.

However, it feels like a step forward towards having a business of some sort.  I have registered the domain lisamackaydesign.com and am hoping to move the blog to lisamackaydesign.com/wickedandweird.  That leaves the main site for building up a brand, sales pitch, pricing, and um... maybe some sort of a product to sell!

It took me AGES to decide on a wordpress theme (I ended up going with Salient) and now I am trying to get it to look the way I want - which is more or less like my blogger blog.  Anyway, I will give you some warning before I press the red button and officially move everything over (or lose it forever, perish the thought).  Until then, I am heading back into Confusion Land...

  1. please share how you like it when you are done! I've considered wordpress or squarespace. and also considered changing my blog name. Then I get overwhelmed and don't switch any of it :)

  3. Oh man, I hear you Julia. It is ridiculously overwhelming! But I realized that if I want to work some sort of commerce angle into this, I have to get on Wordpress. Otherwise, I don't think I would make the switch!

  4. I've always been on Wordpress, but I did move from .com to self hosted about a year into blogging.
Try not to stress out too much - just remember to back up your blog, and if you do something 'wrong' there are loads of people who are tech savvy who can help.

  6. I am in the middle of figuring out how to change my Blogger over to Wordpress. Torn between a few different themes - love the one that you chose. I'm so nervous to make the big transition but I know it will be worth it in the end. Keep us posted on how it goes!

  7. Thanks Amanda, so far it is going pretty well! Slow and Steady... :) It helps that I learned a bit of CSS coding so I can tweak the theme in ways that I want. That is the time-consuming part for me, figuring out how to change things, and then figuring out what code I need and where to put it! But it will be nice to know I did it myself. ;p

  8. I just transferred my blog over from blogger to wordpress and I noticed that all my posts have been reformatted. The images are no longer centered and many of the spaces between paragraphs/images have been removed. Did you have any problems like this when you moved over?

  9. Hmmm, I don't think I did have that issue... and to bring the blog over I just exported it from Blogger to my desktop, then used a wordpress plugin to import it over (Blogger Importer). Everything seemed to come over OK, although I didn't really like the way my original theme formatted the posts...
