Value Village art: feedback required.

While dashing through Value Village on Tuesday, I was stopped in my tracks by the large framed art section.  Someone with a lot of art must have done a clean sweep, there were lots of big huge works on the floor.  I was intrigued by this one, I think because of the watercolour brush strokes and artistic lettering.  Plus it is beautifully framed - this guys is heavy.  So for $15 it came home with me.  But do I love it?  It is too 70's?  Should I remove the brown matting? It is hung too low, but I thought it might work well in the bedroom with the colours in the rug.  (There is no big picture because there was more mess in there than I was willing to clean up!)
I think I like the big horizontal shape better over the bed, but maybe there is a place for this somewhere? Or should I leave it here (but hang it properly)?  Help!

  2. Fabulous find for $15 bucks!! I have to be honest, I like it, but don't love it. I love the scale of the frame and the fact that its horizontal BUT I think I prefer the flag.

  7. Yes, I think it needs to go somewhere else. Perhaps when I paint the foyer white, it will work there. And for $15, at least I didn't break the bank! :) Can't wait to see your place Brooke!

  9. Yes, it's funny, I was drawn to the framing, probably because I am used to Ikea frames with plastic "glass" and this just seemed so GROWN UP. But that was almost separate from the print itself, which I also think needs more space around it. Perhaps I can find something else for the frame and a new frame for the print!

  12. September has been a scramble...I haven't found my Fall rhythm yet!

Plus all my extra time has been dedicated to cooking. I really want to hear my teenage boys say "you guys have to come over to my house for dinner, my mom is the greatest cook"....I need quite a bit of improvement before that statement is true (and I have quite a bit of time)

The flower would be lovely in the foyer!!! Glass & real frames really do elevate an image, no?

I'm late getting in on the action here. I really like the print, but not over the bed and I don't love the frame - too thin and too metally (which really makes sense since it is made of metal). What about a thicker driftwoodsy frame? or a thicker white frame so it is tone-on-tone?

  14. I just watched your segment on S & C, very very nice,......I love your entire layout, mixture of everything, very cozy and inviting,.....Ques: Is Rosewood furniture quality furniture,.... I have a piece from the previous owners in my garage and huge buffet piece and now I"m thinking it's Rosewood, I should clean it up and bring in the house and use it...... Just wondering,...

    Thanks,

    Veronica

  15. Hi Veronica - thank you for your kind words! Yes, Rosewood is usually very nice furniture, you should see what kind of condition it is in! Sometimes (often) it is veneer, meaning that a layer of the expensive/pretty wood (like rosewood) is glued over a cheaper wood. Our table is like this - it is quite common, the only problem is that it can be difficult to restore if it is in rough shape. I hope that you have found a gem in the garage! :)
