Room Photography Tips

I am way behind the times - I just stumbled on this great article by Brian Patrick Flynn on the American HGTV design blog called Hit Me With Your Best Shot written back in October.  It is full of great images, and short interviews with the photographers that have lots of tips and tricks.  Makes me want to find a photography course immediately...

Paper Magic by Mandy Smith

Check out this incredible short animation illustrated entirely of paper by Mandy Smith - it's amazing!  My 3-year-old has already made us watch it 4 times... and counting... :)  It seems kind of Tim Burton-esque, could be the Tom Waits-inspired music...

Pretty Palette

I saw this amazing photo on Solid Frog and picked out the palette below it, maybe because of the rain today but I am feeling the soft, dusty colours.  It inspired me to put together a few images from Pinterest.
Wow I am really getting hooked in Pinterest, I could make these forever.  Are you on there?  I would love to follow you - let me know!  Or you can find me here.

Giveaway - Frankie Ferragine's new book!

Recognize this guy?  If you don't live in Toronto, the answer might well be no.  But if you DO live in Toronto, you probably recognize Frank Ferragine aka Frankie Flowers as the weather guy from Breakfast Television (he has been Toronto's Favourite Weather Personality 6 years running).  He also has a gardening segment on Breakfast Television, is a contributing garden writer for Canadian Living and Canadian Gardening, is the gardening expert on CityLine, writes a weekly column in the Toronto Sun promoting local food, farming, and cuisine, and has just launched his new book, pictured above: Get Growing.  And now, most importantly, he and his garden design teammate Beth Edney of Teamscape have signed on to our George Herman House Project.  I can't quite believe how big this project has gotten, with Frankie and sponsors like Ikea Canada, Tonic Living, Bona Vista Pools, and Mastermind Toys on board.  It is amazing - I am so happy to see such a great cause get so much support.

So here is the cool part for you, and the terrifying part for me: the giveaway.  See, I have never done one of these...(what if no one comments?)...  However, for the good of the cause, and because it is the exciting start of gardening season, I am thrilled to squash my inner-wimp and give one of my lucky readers a copy of Frankie's new book!  To enter, simply leave a comment below describing your gardening skills.  Could you have written this thing, or are you confused by all the greenery pictured above?  Do you speak fertilizer (25-10-10...huh?), or have you been known to melt plastic flowers?  It's ok... no judgement here... :)  If you tweet about the giveaway (and use #bloggersgiveback) leave another comment for an extra entry.  Good luck!  To inspire you to "get growing", I leave you with some photos I took this weekend -such glorious weather!

Neon Love

So bright neon colours aren't my thing (too much commitment!), but I totally see its appeal, especially in these amazing interior shots from Swedish-born photographer Katarina Malmstrom.  That mirror above is all kinds of awesome.  So I thought I would venture outside my norm and post a few of my favourite images from her portfolio featuring some crazy colour.  Maybe I will try to work something outlandishly bright into our house somewhere!
Yeah, I know, not much colour in this one, but isn't the headboard cool?

Thanks to Desire to Inspire for the link to Katarina's site - head on over to see more beautiful (and subdued) interiors!

I heart Bookhou

Apologies for my absense, I have a couple of sick kids that have been commandeering my attention lately (and my sleep).  Please accept these photos of the lovely totes from Toronto's Bookhou as my attempt to make ammends... That one above is especially amazing.

This video has nothing to do with anything design-related, but I just had to share.  Not to oversell it or anything, but it is HILARIOUS.

Home Sweet Home

I have been having so much fun teaching myself this photoshop thinger.  After the previous post, I thought I would practice some more using a few recent photos I took of our living room.  Look, there are drop shadows.....oooooooo.......... I know.  Kind of awesome.  Graphic design world domination, here I come - one layer style at a time.
