My take on simple vintage wedding decor

I haven't been able to do much blogging lately - the past couple of weekends have been wedding madness.  Two of the most special people in my life - Karen and my brother Malcolm - got married this month (to two other people) and my heart is just busting with happiness for them.  Honestly, I feel all giddy when I think about these two happily married couples - they renew my faith in love.  *SOB*

I was lucky enough to have been asked by Karen to help with the decor for her big day, and I thought I would share because this idea could work beautifully for a wedding you might be working on!

I spent the summer thrifting for candlesticks and chalices with a nice patina (it was a rough for me, as you can imagine...).  I was looking for a mix of heights, styles, and metals.  This collection comes from estate sales, flea markets, garage sales, and of course, Value Village and Goodwill.  They ranged in price from $0.50 to $8, so it makes for an affordable and unique option.  Plus, everyone has their own collection, and you could borrow from friends and family if you needed to fill a lot of tables.

An Orange Dress

It is a really good thing that I already had my wedding - there are just too many beautiful ideas and photos out there. I think I would be even more overwhelmed and indecisive than I was when I planned it in 2003.  For example, I didn't even realize that I wanted needed an orange dress until I saw THIS gorgeous number.  It reminds me off that orange dress in Frederic Leighton's Flaming June, a poster of which hung in my room in university.
I love how it illuminates the grey weather of the wedding day, and the bridesmaid dresses and bouquets are no less vibrant.
Plus, I would have to invite all these people to the wedding, because they look so damn cool, which would put me WAAY over my 80 person cap.  Yes, it is a good thing I am already married.

Homestyle Seattle Wedding

The ever-fabulous Miss Moss posted some photos of a sweet home wedding in Seattle.  There are so many cool touches - the pies, the mis-matched chairs, that wicked hat - but the kicker for me is the sweet dog.  Oh, I want to bury my face in his ears...  The photography by Kristen Marie Tourillotte captures perfectly the magic in the air, especially in the shot where the bride is almost at the bottom of the stairs.  I also love the couple's portrait in their chesterfield in the dark room.  What do you think, could you do a wedding at home?
Check out Kristen's site, it is just full of cool weddings and creamy, light-filled photos (and some more adorable doggies too).

Vintage jewellery by luxedeluxe

Wow, it has been a bad week for blog posts - I just haven't been feeling it lately and I have promised myself that I wouldn't make this blog something I feel obligated to do daily.  Mostly I just have not had any time this week to even crack open the laptop - insanity in my world!  What have I been doing you ask?  I haven't a blessed clue - time seems to be simply vanishing without a trace.

Anyway, one thing that caught my eye recently was this Scottish etsy shop mentioned on Cup of Jo.  One of my favourite pieces of jewellery is a vintage diamond [engagement] ring that my husband/father-in-law bought for me (don't ask...) in a tiny antique shop on a side street in Prague.  It is Art Nouveau - Secession to be exact - from Vienna.  It is such a unique shape and design, I feel like there couldn't be another one like it out there, which makes it so very special to me.
That is what I loved about these rings from luxedeluxe - they all seem as if they have their own story and personality.  And what bargains!  It is a fun shop to browse through and imagine all the happiness these rings have brought and still have yet to bring.
Luxedeluxe has some pretty costume and bridal pieces, and how fun would these be for a Christmas party?

Unusual Wedding Photography

With wedding season drawing to a close, I am sure you have seen your fill of gorgeous weddings and incredible, romantic photos, but I have one more for you.  I am not sure how I stumbled on these wedding photographs of Korean couple Julian Sunmi Park and Benjamin Jinsuk Lee, but they might possibly be the most unique wedding photos I have ever, or will ever see.
I love the soft, warm, romantic light of their special picnic in a field of wildflowers, with the undead closing in on them.  Yes, that's right, they had a zombie-themed wedding.  Zombie-themed wedding.  Never thought I would type those words together...
...and they lived happily ever after in their geeky awesomeness.
