Thriller - Imogen Style

I personally love Imogen Heap, and think this cover is kind of fun, even if it does remind me of Emm Gryner's Girl Versions and Tori Amos's Strange Little Girls covers with the piano.  What do you think?

White Owl loveliness

On one of my new favourite blogs Love. Obsess. Inspire. I came across a give-away for the beautiful jewelry of White Owl on etsy. I thought especially of my friend Laura, who recently confessed to an obsession with finding fabric necklaces. I think they would obviously be show-stoppers with a little black dress, but why not with a v-neck t shirt and jeans?

PS Laura - This one above is called Audrey!

Mmmmmmm.....

While on Shelterrific's blog today, I saw a post for a somewhat healthy chocolate cake in a mug, and thought of my Dear Aunt Daphne. You know sometimes you just need that hit of chocolate sinfulness, but don't want to make a whole cake, eat 1 piece and throw the rest away? (Not that anyone would ever do that of course...)

Well instead, you can make 2 servings in a mug in just a few minutes. Also, this recipe comes from the Healthy Recipe Doctor on WebMD, so it isn't as sinful as it could be.

Chocolate Cake In A Mug

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons whole-wheat flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
1/4 cup egg substitute (with yolk) or 1 egg
3 tablespoons lowfat milk or fat free half and half
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 tablespoons fat free sour cream
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons semi sweet chocolate chips (optional)
light vanilla bean ice cream (optional)
sliced strawberries or other fresh fruit (optional)

Preparation:
  1. In microwave-safe coffee mug, combine whole-wheat flour, sugar, and cocoa.
  2. Pour egg substitute or egg, lowfat milk, canola oil, sour cream and vanilla into the mug with dry ingredients and mix well with fork.
  3. Stir chocolate chips into the cake batter in mug, if desired. Place mug in center of microwave (preferably one that has a turn table) and cook on HIGH for 3 minutes. The cake will rise about an inch or so above the top of the mug (don't worry it won't drip down the sides of the mug).
  4. Let cake cool in mug for a few minutes then turn mug upside down over a serving bowl (the cake should slide out fairly easily).
  5. Cut cake in half for a smaller sized serving and top with a small scoop of light vanilla bean ice cream and sliced strawberries (or other fresh fruit).

Serving Suggestion: Serve with a scoop of light vanilla ice cream and some fresh fruit like sliced strawberries or raspberries.

Yield: Makes 2 servings

DEEEEEEELISH!

Ikea Love

I was on the Ikea site this afternoon looking up the dimensions to something, and decided to check out their "new" section. Since I seem to go there weekly (what can I say - it is a great place to spend a rainy day with 2 kids!) I had seen a lot of it, but there were a couple of new things I just noticed:

I have been trying to figure out how to make a new chair cover for the Poang in Cam's room, but I have a feeling that might be one of those things I never get around to. So I was thrilled to see this one - it would look perfect in a baby's room!

This one caught my eye as Will is loving his Ikea moose rocker and seems to find moose everywhere. It would look really fun in his room - maybe on the back of his door.

And these curtains would be great in his room if I didn't already have a set -- but wouldn't they look nice as well in a light airy living room - maybe all whites and beiges with pops of turquoise here and there?

Daily Drop Cap

I have been following the blog Daily Drop Cap and getting a new beautifully illustrated letter every day. We are at V today - almost done! I wonder what she will do then? Here is the description from the blog:

The Daily Drop Cap is an ongoing project by typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische. Each day (or at least each WORK day), a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap will be posted for your enjoyment and for the beautification of blog posts everywhere. To use a Daily Drop Cap on your site or blog, follow the instructions in each post and read about the usage limitations. Enjoy!

Downloadable colouring book

On my go-to kids decorating blog Odeedoh, I was introduced to this great downloadable colouring book. It has adorable illustrations, helps with concepts of feelings, and of course can be printed over and over once you buy it for a whole $3 - much more useful than a store-bought book that is done once all the pages are filled in!

The book is sold on Etsy by seller Kitty Baby Love, who also sells these adorable kitten-shaped crayons:

Petit Collage

Lately I have been enjoying putting together Cameron's room and have logged a lot of hours online in pursuit of all things cute. I have not been disappointed! One standout are the works of Petit Collage, created by Lorena Siminovich. These vintage-inspired collages and illustrations would be gorgeous in a baby space - especially for those of us who chose not to find out the gender of the baby!

These above works are printed on wood veneer - an interesting alternative to canvas or paper - and yet still only cost $15.

This one is one of a set of 4 eco-keepsake cards that come in a beautiful box and would look lovely framed up in a little girl's room.

Fold

Check out these incredible cards created by artist Miro Chun at Fold. They of course would be an awesome card to get in the mail, but at $11, they really are affordable works of art. They would be beautiful in simple frames in a nursery or casual room. I especially love the hippo!
